Herschel: First Light!

Breaking News: First Light for the European Space Agency's far infrared space telescope Herschel, launched on May 14, 2009 and currently on its way to the L2 region.
The image shows the whirlpool galaxy M51. This composite was composed of three separate images in the 70, 100 and 160 micron wavelength bands.
